Phrase notes & fingerings
Fingering rules
Every note uses its exact sounding pitch. Both triads move together by whole octaves; individual notes never change octave to fit the neck.
Each inversion uses one fixed shape. A repeated pitch returns to the same string and fret: the second 1 in 1–3–5–1 cannot move to another position. Replaying that inversion on the backward pass uses the same shape too.
For each playable octave, the search first minimizes the fret distance between the first notes of each paired T1 and T2 phrase. It then minimizes total fret travel through the full routine, including transitions and the loop. Finally, ties favor the smallest largest jump. Open strings count as fret 0; string changes do not add a fret penalty.
Every fingering tied under those rules is available through the arrows, slider, or number field. Pitch shift selects alternatives in another octave. The written octave is selected first when playable, otherwise the nearest playable octave. Each octave placement has its own minimum.
Play and Loop isolate parts of the chosen routine while keeping their fingerings and octaves. Full routine travel figures still describe the complete pattern. Changing fingerings in the same octave keeps audio running; an octave change replays the current note in the new register.
Practice & pattern guide
Play selects both triads, Triad 1 only, or Triad 2 only. The omitted triad is skipped with no silent gaps and is removed from the fretboard. Loop selects all pairs or one pair; with one triad selected, it loops just that inversion pattern. Solo labels show the actual inversion and starting note. Pair labels list T1’s inversion first, then T2’s.
View offers One note, One inversion, Current pair, and All notes. One inversion shows the fixed positions of the current chord pattern with its sounding note highlighted. One note follows a single chosen position in time with the audio. Preview next phrase adds a dashed target at the next active phrase’s first note. A single isolated inversion has no next-phrase preview.
Triad 1 moves through root position, first inversion, and second inversion. Triad 2 connects from the last note of each Triad 1 phrase. Nearest chord tone chooses the closest pitch; equal distances favor the upper note. Nearest connections may reuse a T2 inversion in different pairs; the labels show the actual inversion and starting pitch. Up and down allow a shared tone at unison. A fixed connection starts on the selected degree, then cycles degrees for the later pairs.
Pattern numbers describe root position; degrees rotate with the inversion. Inversion names always describe the lowest pitch, and actual degrees appear under each phrase note. Forward, then back reverses phrase order while preserving note order. End phrases play once at each turn, including when soloing. All sequences loop.
Pause is silent and keeps your place; Resume continues with the next note. Previous/next and phrase clicks pause and briefly audition a note. Space starts or stops outside controls. Map checkboxes affect All notes only. For one complete inversion on its own, set Play to one triad, Loop to an inversion, and View to One inversion.
